Summit 50 Plus Ski With Us

We ski every Tuesday at Breckenridge and every Thursday at Keystone. We meet at 8:40am, ski from 9am, break for a group lunch, then ski until you’ve had enough. Our regular schedule will begin in early January and extend through the end of March.

Thanks for your interest in the 50+ Ski With Us Ski Group.  We are a very active and fun loving group of alpine skiers and snowboarders. We welcome all skiers and riders from the intermediate / blue ability level on up. We meet to ski regularly twice each week at Breck and Keystone. We attempt to provide experienced, knowledgeable leaders and break up into smaller groups to accommodate various levels of skiing and desired type of terrain.

We use the Summit 50+ Ski with Us Meetup.com site for our organizational platform where you will find all the details. We encourage you to log-on and join the group – It’s free!

To be part of our group, you need to be a member of Summit 50Plus.  Below is a link to the Summit 50Plus on-line Membership signup, or to download an application which can be mailed. You can also join at the Summit County Community Center.

Remember, “You don’t quit skiing when you get old, you get old when you quit skiing!” We are looking forward to seeing you all on the hill soon!

Summit Trekkers

Thursdays | July – September

The Trekkers do strenuous hikes (slightly slower than the Mountain Goats), usually 8-10 miles with 1,500-2000+ elevation gain. They hike mostly (not always) on trails. Formerly known as the “Trail Goats”, the group originated to provide an alternative to Mountain Goat hikes.  For more information email summittrekkers23@gmail.com.

Turtles & Snails

Thursdays | Year Round

The “Turtles” hike all year round on Thursday mornings. We switch to snowshoes and yaktrax in winter, rec paths during mud season and easy hikes all summer. Our hikes are usually 3 to 5 miles. Sometimes we have some “Snails” who hike at a slower pace and not as far. We want our group to be accessible to all so come and enjoy our beautiful mountains.

If you are interested in helping as a leader or co-leader please contact Mickie Parsons at mickiepar@msn.com.

Canine Companions

Wednesdays | May – October, meeting times vary by month

Moderate Wednesday hikes at a leisurely pace, with furry friends welcome — Those unfortunate to not be owned by a dog are also welcome. The group’s meeting times and carpool locations vary over the summer. Contact Howard at brown.howard2@gmail.com to get on their email list. Plan to bring leashes, lunch and good rain gear.

Mountain Goats

Wednesdays | Mid May – September

The Mountain Goats are Summit 50+’s most challenging hiking group. Our mid-season hikes are typically 8-12+ miles with 3000-4000+’ elevation gain. They usually contain a significant off-trail component with some Class 2+ scrambling, moving at a brisk pace. Our members make our hikes a priority in their summer plans because they love hiking, and they love hiking with our group. We hike every Wednesday from mid-May through the end of September. If this sounds like what you are up for doing on a regular basis with a group, please email summitmountaingoats@gmail.com for further information and a possible try-out hike..

Summit 50 Plus Golf Program

May through September

The Summit 50 Plus Golf Program is an excellent way to meet other Summit 50 Plus folks who have the same passion for the sport. The golf courses in the area are beautiful, challenging and provide opportunities for players of all skill levels. Golf courses in the program include the Keystone River and Ranch courses as well as the Raven Golf Club at Three Peaks.  Golf discounts are given for the Raven and Keystone courses. These include: green fees, merchandise and lesson discounts.

Three programs exist for the 50 Plus golfer:

  1. The golf program coordinator has arranged discounted green fees at each of the courses identified above for Summit 50 Plus members. To participate in this program, folks must be up to date on Summit 50 Plus membership dues and have purchased a Summit 50 Plus Golf Card at the Community Center for $5.
  2. Boomers on the Links: The Summit 50 Plus Golf Program promotes and supports a weekly Tuesday clinic at the Keystone River Course. During these outings, participants play nine holes of golf, receive a group lesson and are treated to lunch for a reasonable price. Those interested in this clinic should contact the Keystone Pro Shop at (970) 496-1520 to reserve a spot.
  3. Special golf outings are arranged at courses apart from those mentioned above. These outings give the Summit 50 Plus golfer an opportunity to try courses not played before. The group aims for two special outings in the summer during July and August.

If you would like to help with the Summit 50 Plus Golf Program, please call Tom McCullough at 630-880-8024 or email Tmccull567@aol.com.
